IWC Schaffhausen introduced its unique four-digit year display perpetual calendar with the Da Vinci almost four decades ago, in 1985. Today, IWC pushes the boundaries by unveiling its first secular perpetual calendar: the Portugieser Eternal Calendar. A secular calendar takes into account the Gregorian calendar’s leap-year exception rules. Thanks to a newly engineered 400-year gear, the Eternal Calendar will skip three leap years over four centuries and thus won’t require any adjustments for thousands of years until 3,999. In addition, this timepiece comes with a moon phase accurate to 1 day in 45 million years.
The Portugieser Eternal Calendar features a finished platinum case with polished and brushed surfaces. The generous use of glass, including a glass dial and domed sapphire crystals, puts the watch’s clever mechanics on full display.
