Grand Seiko is celebrating the various colors of the sky at sunset and sunrise over Lake Suwa, southeast of the Shinshu Watch Studio, with the release of two US market-exclusive 44GS watches.
The Spring Drive Caliber 9R65 powers the SBGA507 and SBGA509 with 72 hours of power reserve and a ±15 seconds per month accuracy (approximately ±1 second per day). The movement is visible through the display caseback of the 100-meter water-resistant stainless steel case that measures 40mm by 12.5mm and 46.2mm lug-to-lug. Each watch comes on a classic five-piece link bracelet with brushed and polished finishes. The clasp lacks micro-adjustment.
Both have dials inspired by kirazuri, meaning “sparking painting.” This artistic flourish involves mica powder, often used in ukiyo-e woodblock printing. The SBGA507 is blue to mimic the early evening sky over Lake Suwa, while the SBGA509 is pink to pay tribute to the sunrise there.
Each watch will be limited to 300 pieces and retail for $5,600. Starting today, it will be available at boutiques, retailers, and Grand Seiko’s online boutique.
