Introducing: Omega Speedmaster Flight Qualified Pilot

After leaking earlier this year, we finally got a civilian version of the Omega Speedmaster Flight Qualified Pilot watch. The original leaks were captured at 67,900 ft and posted on Omega Forums by the legendary spy plane U-2 “Dragon Lady” pilot. The civilian version has some slight cosmetic differences from the military version. The first notable one is the second subdial, which resembles an artificial horizon plane indicator in blue and dark grey, while the military was monochromatic with two shades of grey. The other difference is that the solid caseback is engraved with the hippocampus for us civilians, while pilots and radar operators would get their unit insignias.

Contrary to the Speedmaster Professional, this Speedmaster Pilot has a dual register display. At three, you will find a combined 60-minute and 12-hour counter that resembles a burn rate indicator from a pilot’s cockpit with an orange minute hand. The sub-dial at 9 o’clock showcases a striking contrast between the artificial blue horizon and the bright yellow seconds hand. The bezel features a silver minute track with white Super-LumiNova markers and hands. Finally, the central orange chronograph seconds hand was given plane wings.

As you might have been able to tell, this release is not a revival of the Flightmaster. However, it is inspired by it.

The watch is powered by Omega’s METAS-certified Calibre 9900 inside the stainless steel case. The movement has a 60-hour power reserve and can move the hour hand independently as GMT watches.

This Speedmaster has a brushed stainless steel bracelet with an on-the-fly micro-adjustment clasp. A grey Kevlar-reinforced NATO strap with a steel buckle is also included.

This release is not a limited edition; however, it is exclusive to Omega boutiques.
